How to be Honest
Being honest assumes you have worked on ways to raise your own level of honesty. Likewise, you have developed enough self-esteem to tolerate the truth. And are willing to change, upon acknowledging a different reality.
It would be a whole lot easier to embrace honesty if it didn’t require so much truth. Not to mention our mutual friends Pride, Ego, and Low Self-Esteem would have to leave. I find when I tire of their company, I ask them to leave and lock the door behind them.
I highly value honesty. I was once in a relationship where truth was kept from me. It wasn’t the truth that destroyed the relationship, it was the secrets.

15 Actions to Raise Your Level of Honesty
- Thinking before you speak
- Catching yourself when telling lies – even to yourself
- Saying what you mean and meaning what you say
- Showing up to work or appointments on time
- Confronting the things about yourself that you dislike
- Owning up to what you really want to do
- Spending money you do not have
- Figuring out why you lie and to whom you lie
- Simplifying your statements making them clearly understandable
- Exercising tact
- Open to feedback
- Anticipating behaviors that will make you feel guilty
- Hiding expenditures from your spouse
- Respecting others and allowing them to own their own feelings
- Comparing yourself to others
Honesty’s Assignment
From the Raising Your Level of Honesty list, write down any statements that had a bit of sting to them. Then, make them meet honesty.
BE HONEST
There have been times in my life I have not been honest with others or myself.
There have been times when being honest hurt me.
There have been times when being truthful cost me.
I still choose to live an honest, open, and authentic life.

This verse tells me you would prefer a kiss over a slug to the stomach. Oh my.
